Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan heads into the weekend with an overall record of 11-9 and 2-6 in conference play. Last weekend the Broncos lost a pair of five-set matches, falling to Buffalo last Friday and MAC East leader Akron on Saturday.
11 Straight for No. 9
Heading into the weekend, junior
Rachel Bontrager has recorded 11 straight matches with double digit kills. It's the second longest streak of her career and one shy of her career-high of 12 straight matches set a season ago.
Phillips Does It All
Sophomore
Meredith Phillips is enjoying a successful sophomore campaign, recording 34 kills in two matches last weekend. Phillips ranks third on the team with 161 kills and posted a career-high 20 kills and 13 digs at Akron.
Welcome to the Block Party
Redshirt sophomore
Janell Williams is one of the best at the net defensively, leading the team and ranking third in the MAC with 1.13 blocks per set. Williams has totaled at least eight blocks in a match four separate times this season.
Digging It
Senior
Kathleen Reilly is one of the best defensive players in the country, ranking 12
th in the NCAA in digs per set (5.41) and 13
th in the NCAA in total digs (422).
What's on Deck
Following its home weekend, WMU hits the road to take on in-state rivals Central Michigan (Oct. 31) and Eastern Michigan (Nov. 2).
Scouting the Opponent
Ohio (13-8, 5-3 MAC): The Bobcats head into the weekend having won four of their last six matches. Last weekend, Ohio was swept by Ball State before sweeping Toledo.
Kent State (10-10, 3-5 MAC): Prior to making the trip to Kalamazoo, the Golden Flashes square off with NIU on Friday. KSU has won two straight matches with a five-set win over Toledo followed by a sweep of Ball State.
