COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Western Michigan men's tennis team competed at the 2019 ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Columbus, Ohio over the weekend. The event was hosted by Ohio State and took place at two separate venues.
The nationally ranked doubles team of
Jannik Opitz and
Kennosuke Nouchi, who earned the top seed in the doubles draw, went 2-1 after falling in the quarterfinal round to the sixth seeded pair of Ondrej Styler and Connor Johnston from Michigan by a score of 8-5.
In the main singles draw, Opitz, who was seeded at #13, advanced to round of 16 after picking up straight set victories over opponents representing Wisconsin and DePaul.
Sophomore
Peter Kuszynski defeated Nick Beaty of Michigan in his first round contest (6-3, 6-2), before losing to #27 nationally ranked Kyle Seelig from Ohio State in the round of 32.
Nouchi and sophomore
Jack Randall both won consolation singles matches on Saturday after suffering setbacks in the first round of the main draw.
The Broncos will conclude their 2019 fall competitive schedule by hosting the MAC Invite in early November.
