KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan men's soccer head coach
Chad Wiseman announced the addition of transfer
Eric Conerty on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Conerty, who is enrolled at Western Michigan for the spring semester, played his freshman season at Butler University and will be eligible to play for the Broncos next season.
A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Conerty comes to WMU after spending the 2018 fall semester at Butler University. He played in all but one game for the Bulldogs and totaled four points off two goals. Conerty also tallied 14 shots in 898 minutes played.
Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, the 5-11 forward guided Forest Hills Central High School to an overall record of 34-5-4 throughout his career. During his senior year, Conerty recorded 40 goals and 12 assists to become a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American. He played club soccer for the Columbus Crew Academy and achieved high academic honors all four years of high school.
Eric's older brother, Sean, played two years for the Broncos from 2014-15 after transferring from Michigan State. He was a two-time First Team All-MAC midfielder and was a NCAA Division I statistical champion for Assists Per Game (0.68).Â
"Our staff is very pleased to be adding Conerty to the program," Wiseman commented. "He is exactly the type of player and person we want representing WMU. We wanted Eric the first time around and were elated when we heard the opportunity was there to bring him in. He is a gifted player that has all the ability to be a top player in the MAC. He has a great soccer IQ, vision and first touch, and can be lethal from 30 yards from goal. He knows how to score and create, which you can never have enough of in your arsenal. Simply put, Eric is a game changer. It is going to be fun to see him come back home to the state of Michigan and see what he will achieve in Kalamazoo."
