KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team has jumped in the top 15 in the US College Hockey Online and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, coming in at 14 in both on Monday.
WMU is coming off a pair of wins over UConn and Air Force in route to claiming the 2019 Ice Vegas Invitational to extend its unbeaten streak to a nation's-best eight games. The Broncos opened the tournament with a 5-1 win over the Huskies, following it with a 4-1 victory over the Falcons to claim the title. Senior goalie Trevor Gorsuch was named MVP, while Luke Bafia and Ethen Frank were also named to the All-Tournament team.
The Broncos jumped from 17th in the previous USCHO.com poll and were receiving votes in the previous USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine.
Western Michigan returns to Lawson Ice Arena for the first time since Dec. 8, hosting National Collegiate Hockey Conference rival No. 20 Miami on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-4-WMUTIX and online at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
