KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team jumped up five spots in both the US College Hockey Online and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls to eighth after sweeping No, 4/3 Denver over the weekend.

The Broncos downed the Pioneers 3-1 on Friday night and followed it up with a 5-1 victory on Saturday to move into sole possession of third place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The sweep also moved WMU up to eighth in the Pairwise Rankings, a metric used to determine at-large bids for the NCAA Tournament.

This is the fourth straight week Western Michigan has been voted in the top 15 and its second week overall in the top 10. WMU's ranking of eighth is its highest since it was ranked sixth in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll on Feb. 20, 2017.

Western Michigan heads back on the road in NCHC play, traveling to Omaha on Friday and Saturday. Both games are slated for 8:07 p.m. and can be seen live on NCHC.tv and heard live on the Bronco Radio Network. WMU returns home to host North Dakota on Feb. 15-16. Friday's game will start at 6:30 p.m. due to national coverage by CBS Sports Network. Saturday's game will drop the puck at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-4-WMUTIX and online at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
