Golf Sits Sixth at Diane Thomason Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Western Michigan women's golf team sits in sixth place after two rounds at the Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course at the University of Iowa on Saturday.

The Broncos battled the cold the rain to a 36-hole total of 634 (+58) after a pair of 317's in the first and second rounds. The host Hawkeyes lead at 598 (+22), while North Dakota State and Southern Illinois are tied for second at 623 (+47). WMU also trails Northern Iowa by six strokes and Drake by three strokes.

"The weather and golf course played tough today and I know we have more in us as a team," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "We did some good things today but we did not make enough birdies overall. Tomorrow is another great opportunity for us to post a strong score."

Senior Claire Hernandez was the top performer on the day for Western Michigan, shooting an opening round of 77 and a second round of 80 for 157 (+13). Junior Jasmine Chee and freshman Fiona Wang sit tied for 21st after both shooting a 159 (+15), while freshman Brooke Gibbons sits tied for 29th at 161 (+17) and Cameryn Lucia finished the day with a 166 (+22).

The final round begins on Sunday morning.
