Ben Thornton Named to CSN National Team of the Week

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Western Michigan men's soccer senior defender defender Ben Thornton was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week Monday, Sept. 17 after scoring helping guide the Broncos to a 2-0 week with victories over Cincinnati and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

At Cincinnati Wednesday, Sept. 12, Thornton scored his second goal of the season, heading in the eventual game-winner off a corner kick. The Broncos held on for a 2-1 win over the Bearcats.

On Saturday versus UMBC, Thornton led the Brown & Gold defensive unit to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Retrievers. Thornton and the Broncos limited UMBC to just one shot on goal en route to their second shutout win of the season while improving their record to 4-4 overall.

The honor stands as the third of Thornton's career, as he was named to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week on Oct. 31 last year along with the CSN National Team of the Week once more Nov. 21.

Western Michigan returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 with a road match at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET).
