TORONTO – Former Western Michigan men's basketball player Flenard Whitfield has signed a one-year contract with the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) announced on Thursday by Slan Sports Management.
Whitfield played at WMU from 2008-12, registering 1,256 career points which ranks 14
th in program history. During his freshman season at WMU, Whitfield averaged 5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game en route to MAC All-Freshman team honors. Whitfield ranks fifth all-time in career games played at WMU with 125.
The Detroit, Mich., native began in professional career by signing with the Albury Wodonga Bandits in the South East Australian Basketball league for the 2013 summer season. In the fall of 2013, he moved to Canada to join the Brampton A's of the NBLC.
Over three seasons with the A's, Whitfield helped the team to the second best record in the league in 2014 and the NBLC Semifinals in 2015.
Whitfield spent the 2016-17 season with the U.M.F. Skallagrimur Borganes of the Icelandic Dominoes League, playing 22 games and leading the team in scoring at 29.4 points per game. For his performance, Whitfield was selected to the
Eurobasket.com All-Iceland Dominoes League Second Team and All-Imports Team.
In 21 games with the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans last season, Whitfield was the league's fifth-leading scorer at 19.0 points per game and sixth leading rebounder at 8.5 per game. Whitfield was named to the All-NBLC Third Team.
