KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team remained unbeaten in the Mid-American Conference with a 7-0 victory over Ball State on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. The Broncos, who are now on a six-match winning streak, got off to a great start by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Jannik Opitz and Kennosuke Nouchi earned a 6-0 win at one to open while the duo of Eric Olivarez and Nick Schnobel clinched with a 6-4 win at No. 2 to move to 16-7 overall together.

In singles, Western Michigan won at four, one and six, in that order, to clinch the match as the Broncos need just two more victories to win the MAC regular season title. In his final appearance in Kalamazoo, Steiner earned a 6-0, 7-5 victory in the one spot while Lenhard Haupt picked up his sixth straight match without dropping a set against his opponent.

Opitz had his work cut out for him at the two this afternoon after falling 6-2 in the first set to Ball State's Nemanja Guzina but the sophomore battled back to win the second and third set to earn his 25th singles victory. Other victories for WMU include Matej Svjetlicic, the match-clincher, Eric Olivarez and Nouchi, who defeated his opponent 6-7(3), 6-4, 1-0 (1).

Prior to the match, Western Michigan honored its two seniors in Heckman and Steiner. These two captains have left a significant mark on the program and with just three regular-season matches remaining, they helped the team to a combined overall record of 71-25 and a 19-4 MAC record all while being 47-4 at home. They led the Broncos to reach their highest ranking in program history back on Feb. 20 to No. 31 in the country and during the 2016 season, they also helped WMU claim the conference regular season title and tournament championship.

The Broncos hit the road next weekend, traveling to Binghamton on Friday, April 13 and Buffalo on Sunday, April 15. The final regular season match is scheduled for Saturday, April 21 at Toledo.
