Box Score 2 KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan softball team fell in both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Toledo, 3-0 and 8-3. WMU finishes the weekend 1-2 against the Rockets. The Broncos won Friday's series opener, 2-1 in 14 innings.
Western Michigan's record moves to 23-20 on the season and 10-8 in the Mid-American Conference. The Broncos are looking to close in on one of eight seeds to the upcoming MAC Tournament and have six conference contest remaining. WMU trals to Northern Illinois April 27 & 28 and hosts Eastern Michigan May 4 & 5.
The Broncos were held to six hits in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
Mackenzie Swinehart and
Marlee Wilson each batted 2-for-3. Senior
Anissa Sanchez took the loss in the pitcher's circle, going four innings and allowing one run and four hits.
In game two, Western Michigan took a 3-2 lead in second and carried it into the fifth. A two-out error in the fifth by the Broncos proved costly as Toledo went on to score five unearned runs.
Freshman
Samantha Coffel hit a two-run home run for the Broncos in the bottom of the first that tied the game at 2-2. WMU went up 3-2 in the second after
Aspen Williams singled, advanced to second on an error, moved to third on a sac bunt and scored on an RBI single by
Skyler Sobeski.
Jordan Kurth took the loss in game two, throwing 4.2 innings and allowing six runs (two earned) and seven hits.
