LANGLEY, British Columbia – Western Michigan freshman defenseman Mattias Samuelsson has been named to the final 23-man roster by USA Hockey for the upcoming 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia from Dec. 26- Jan. 5, 2019.
Samuelsson, a product of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, becomes the first Bronco to represent USA in the tournament since Joe Corvo in 1996. He is also the last Bronco to play in the World Junior Championship since Frederik Tiffels played for Germany in 2015. Samuelsson played in both of USA's pre-tournament games in wins over Russia, 3-2, and Czech Republic, 6-2.
The Buffalo Sabres' draft pick has played in all 16 games this season for the Broncos, netting three goals and tallying five assists for eight points. He also leads the team in plus/minus with a +12.
