BONNYVILLE, Alberta – Future Western Michigan hockey player Ronnie Attard captained the United States Junior Select Team to a championship at the 2018 World Junior A Challenge after a 2-0 win over Russia on Sunday.
Attard, a 6-foot-3 defenseman from White Lake, Mich., played in all six games for Team USA, scoring one goal and adding two assists. USA went 4-3-0 in the tournament with wins over the Czech Republic (4-2), Canada East (7-3), and Canada West (3-2) before the victory over the Russians. Attard scored his goal in the 3-2 overtime win over Canada Wester, giving USA an early 2-0 lead in the first period.
Attard is in his third full season in the United States Hockey League with the Tri-City Storm, where he is also currently the captain. Through 14 games this season he has 12 points on six goals and six assists. He sits just three points shy of matching his career-best point output in the USHL, racking up 15 points on eight goals and seven assists last season.
