Scouting the Broncos
For the third straight year Western Michigan began its season 1-0 after defeating Detroit Mercy, 89-76 on Tuesday night. The Broncos were led by seniors
Josh Davis and
Seth Dugan who each recorded a double-double against the Titans.
Dugan's Career Night
Dugan against Detroit Mercy had a record breaking night, scoring a career-high 32 points and grabbing 22 rebounds. Dugan became just the second player in school history to have a 30 point, 20 rebound game.
The Otsego, Mich., native joins Reggie Lacefield as the only other Bronco to do so. Lacefield posted 34 points and a school record 26 rebounds at Illinois State in 1967.
Don't Forget About Davis
Senior
Josh Davis got his senior campaign off to a fast start, recording a double-double as well against Detroit Mercy with 15 point and 10 rebounds. Davis went 6-of-10 from the floor and collected a career-high four assists.
Fresh Faces
Against Detroit Mercy on Tuesday, WMU had seven players who either made their first start as a Bronco or collegiate debut.
Heading to the Magnolia State
Against NCAA Division I teams from the state of Mississippi, the Broncos have an overall record of 1-1. This is the first time WMU has squared off with a school from Mississippi since 1952.
WMU Against the SEC
All-time against the SEC, the Broncos are 2-6 with victories over South Carolina and Auburn.
WMU Picked Fourth in MAC West Preseason Poll
As voted on by the leagues' coaches and media, Western Michigan was picked to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference west division while receiving one first-place vote. WMU also received one vote to win the conference tournament.
On the Horizon
It will be a quick turnaround for the Brown & Gold as the Broncos travel to Oakland for a match-up with the Golden Grizzlies on Tuesday, Nov. 13. WMU will be back at home on Saturday, Nov. 17 against Aquinas College.
