GREENWOOD, Ind. - The 2018 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Soccer Teams were released Thursday, Nov. 8 with
Anthony Bowie from the Western Michigan men's soccer team selected to the 12-member District 5 Team, which features student-athletes of institutions from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Bowie is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America voting, marking the second consecutive season that Bronco men's soccer has placed student-athletes on the All-District Team with
Zach Bock,
Brandon Bye, and
Drew Shepherd each receiving the accolade last season.
A native of Grand Rapids, Mich.,
Anthony Bowie boasts a 4.00 GPA, majoring in Sales & Business Marketing at Western Michigan. A Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athlete and Academic All-MAC honoree last season, Bowie is one of three Broncos to have started all 18 games this season and has recorded a career-high seven points with two goals and three assists. He leads the team with 39 shots and 17 shots on goal while accumulating 1,363 minutes played.
This year's CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 Team includes just two other members from a MAC institution – Jan Maertins and Konrad Dziedzic from Northern Illinois University. The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third team (if necessary) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
