KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's soccer team opens its 2018 Mid-American Conference schedule during WMU homecoming Saturday, Oct. 6, hosting West Virginia University at 1 p.m. from WMU Soccer Complex.
Last year in the MAC
The 2017 Broncos turned in an undefeated 5-0-0 in Mid-American Conference record, clinching the first ever outright MAC regular season title in school history. It snapped Akron's 12-year run as conference champions, dating back to 2005.
Last time out
The Broncos (6-4-1) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end during a 1-1 draw in double overtime versus the University of Pacific on Sunday, Sept. 30. WMU got on the board first as
Zack Shane headed in his third of the season at the 73
rd minute, but the Tigers answered quickly with the equalizer five minutes later.
Series History
Saturday's match will mark the eighth all-time matchup between Western Michigan and West Virginia, with the Broncos owning a 3-2-2 series advantage. WMU defeated WVU twice last season, including a 1-0 win in the MAC semifinals.  Â
Scouting West Virginia
The Mountaineers improved their overall record to 7-4 on the season with a 2-0 victory over Binghamton on Tuesday. WVU ranks second in several categories in the MAC, including 19 goals scored. Juniors Ryan Kellogg and Pascal Derwaritsch share the WVUÂ goal-scoring lead with four goals each. Sophomore goalkeeper Steven Tekesky has started each game for the Mountaineers and leads the MAC with 39 saves and an .812 save percentage.
