WMU Golf Hosts KZoo Classic at The Moors on Monday and Tuesday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team is set to host the 2017 KZoo Classic at The Moors Golf Club in Portage on Monday and Tuesday.

It's the second annual tournament to be held at WMU's home course. The Broncos welcome Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Eagles return to defend their championship from last season. EMU won with a three-round total of 896 (+32). The Broncos are the next highest-returning team, taking third last season with a score of 925 (+61).

The top returning individual finishers are Eastern Michigan senior Thelma Beck. Beck tied for second place with her former teammate Kesley Murphy with a three-round total of 222 (+6). Ohio's Hailey Hrynewich won the tournament last season with a 215 (-1) but graduated. WMU's top returning finisher is senior Julia Champion. Champion finished tied for ninth place with a 54-hole total of 228 (+12).

"We are looking forward to hosting the KZoo Classic for the second year," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "The support has been wonderful from the community, The Moors and our athletic department. The course is in great condition and I'm looking forward to some great play. We are definitely excited and ready to compete at home this week."

Practice rounds start on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The first round is set to start on Monday morning at 9 a.m., with the second round starting shortly after the conclusion of the first. The final round begins on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. with an award ceremony to follow play. The tournament is open to the public.
