A native of Sant antoni de vilamajor, Spain, Martinez has been in the United States as an exchange student attending Kokomo High School in Kokomo, Ind. He is a 5-10, 160-pound midfielder and will be a freshman at Western Michigan this fall.
Martinez joins incoming freshmen
Anthony Bowie,
Mitchell Herried,
Mitchell Patchett,
Baba Valdmanis,
AJ VanVoorhis and
Giuseppe Vitale as well as transfers
Evan Brandon (UConn),
Tommy Clark (Bradley),
Jake Rufe (Indiana) and
Kyle Taalman (Ohio State) in the 2016 recruiting class.
“We are very happy to have Pepe joining us here in Kalamazoo," Wiseman said. "We discovered him at one of our ID camps this past November and he set the camp on fire. We received a good recommendation on him and invited him to camp and the rest is history.
"Pepe has a great amount of versatility to his game allowing him to potentially play several positions in the midfield. He is a very smart and crafty soccer player. He possesses great technical ability which makes him very dangerous on the attack and in 1v1 situations. He is also very good on set pieces and has a great deal of bite to his game. His skills and abilities fit in perfectly to the way we like to play the game.”
Western Michigan is coming off one of its most successful seasons in 2015. The Broncos earned their first ever Top 25 national ranking and set a school record with 12 shutouts while posting 11 wins. Wiseman collected Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year honors and the Broncos produced four all-region players, six All-MAC selections and an NCAA statistical champion.
