STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- The Western Michigan golf team sits tied for fifth place after round one of the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia State on Friday.
The round played at Eagle's Landing Country Club was delayed 75 minutes due to weather but when it was all said and done the Broncos combined to shoot 301 (+13) to tie Cal State Fullerton. Elon and Western Kentucky are tied for the lead with 293 (+5) followed by Eastern Kentucky at 295 (+7) and Florida Gulf Coast in forth at 297 (+9).
Individually Chloe Lawrie and Claire Hernandez both shot even-par 72's and sit tied for third place, sitting just one stroke off the lead of Emily Brooks and Kelsey Badmaev from Elon. Five others sit tied with Lawrie and Hernandez in third place. Lawrie was tied with three others for second-most birdies on the day after sinking four. Hernandez was just behind her with several others with three in the round.
Anna Wilcoxin shot a 77 (+5) and sits tied for 32nd was WMU's third finisher, followed by Sarah White at 80 (+8) and Julia Champion at 82 (+10).
Final round play begins Monday morning at 8 a.m.
