Men's Tennis Downs Chicago State and Ferris State to Extend Winning Streak to Four

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team earned its second straight doubleheader sweep to improve to 8-3 this season and extend its winning streak to four matches. The Broncos, who are a perfect 6-0 at home this season, beat Chicago State 7-0 before topping Ferris State 6-1 on Monday afternoon at West Hills. 

Against the Cougars, the duos of senior Ruben Greiner/senior Stephen Payne as well as senior Jimmy Beckwith/sophomore Jefta Kecic both earned doubles wins while junior Matt Hamilton and sophomore Maik Steiner won by forfeit. In singles play, freshman Matej Svjetlicic improved to 22-5 at the time with a win in the No. 1 spot. Also with Svjetlicic, junior Daniel Loebel (No. 2), Andrew Cahn (No. 3), Eric Olivarez (No. 4), Nick Schnobel (No. 5) all earned wins. Olivarez battled to win 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) while Schnobel, who was a part of the longest match of the day, won a tight 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 13-11 contest. Cahn served as the clinching match in the win over the Cougars. 

Against the Bulldogs, the duos of Greiner/Loebel and Hamilton/Steiner each earned wins to improve to 11-4 and 17-3 this season, respectively. In singles, Kecic (No. 1), Hamilton (No. 2), Loebel (No. 4), Cahn (No. 5) and Olivarez (No. 6) all earned wins. Cahn, for the second time of the day, served as the clinching match in the win over the Bulldogs.
