2016 Ice Duchenne Info

WHEN IS IT?
Western Michigan hosts NCHC rivals Miami on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the annual Ice Duchenne game at Lawson Ice Arena.

WHAT IS IT?
Ice Duchenne is WMU Hockey's annual fundraiser in honor of former associate head coach Rob Facca's son Louie. Louie continues to battle against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and the family has taken up the motto of "No Bad Days," doing their best to help other boys affected with Duchenne to make sure they have No Bad Days. Rob and his family have spent countless hours raising money and awareness for those affected with Duchenne.

WHAT IS DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY?
Duchenne is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed during childhood, affecting approximately one in 3,500 boys worldwide. The disease interrupts muscle development in the limbs, lungs, hands and heart. There is no cure and treatment currently involves improving quality of life. Boys with Duchenne are typically confined to a wheelchair by their teens and many do not survive beyond their mid-20's. Thanks to improved research, awareness, and commitment many therapies are helping them live longer and happier lives.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
All proceeds from the game go to Parent Project for Muscular Dystrophy. PPMD's mission is to end Duchenne. They help accelerate research, advocate for those affected in local and national government, demand optimal care for all the young men affected, and educate the global community on the affects of Duchenne. WAYS TO GIVE
At Saturday's game the Bronco hockey team will be taking a collection for those who want to give directly. Donations are tax deductible and will be matched by one of Ice Duchenne's many sponsors. Two autographed jerseys, a Chicago Blackhawks Patrick Kane and a Detroit Red Wings Henrik Zetterberg jersey, will be raffled off on site. Only 100 tickets per jersey are available and the tickets are $20 each. If you can't make it to the game you can donate $5.00 by texting CURE to 90999.

You can also help spread the word on social media by using the hash tag IceDuchenne and NoBadDays
