KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team was dominant in its wins over Detroit and Wayne State on Sunday afternoon. First the Broncos downed the Titans 6-1 and later shutout the Warriors 7-0. 

WMU improved to 6-3 overall this season and snapped a brief three-match losing streak that included losses against a pair of nationally-ranked teams in No. 62 Iowa and No. 39 Drake. 

Against Detroit, the duo of junior Matt Hamilton and sophomore Maik Steiner secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Mertz/Conley in the No.2 spot to improve their record to 16-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in dual matches. Senior Ruben Greiner and junior Daniel Loebel earned the first win of the day, taking down Solarewicz/Ponton 6-1 to improve to 10-4 this season. Steiner (No. 1), sophomore Jefta Kecic (No. 2), Hamilton (No. 3), Loebel (No. 5) and Andrew Cahn (No. 6) all earned wins in singles play. 

Against the Warriors, the Broncos did not lose a single set as doubles teams of Greiner/Stephen Payne, Kecic/Jimmy Beckwith and Loebel/Hamilton all earned 6-4 wins to kick off the second match of the day. In singles, the Broncos swept as Matej Svejetlicic improved to 21-5 this season with a 6-0, 6-4 win in No. 1 spot. Cahn (No. 2), Eric Olivarez (No. 3), Beckwith (No. 4), Nick Schnobel (No. 5) and Payne (No. 6) all earned wins in singles play as well with Payne serving as the match clincher. 

The Broncos will stay busy with two more matches on Monday, Feb. 15 against Chicago State at 2 p.m. and Ferris State at 7 p.m. Both matches will be at West Hills Athletic Club where attendence is free of charge.
