MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team continued its Mid-American Conference road swing, falling at Central Michigan 3-2 (25-18, 19-25, 11-25, 25-9, 13-15) on Sunday afternoon.
Sydney LeMay led the way for the Broncos (5-12, 0-4 MAC) with 13 kills and 5 total blocks, recording 18 points. Nicole Kinser recorded double-digit kills in back-to-back matches for the first time this season after finishing with 12. Senior Alysia Baznik led the way with 16 digs, while freshman Kathleen Reilly finished with 12.
The first set saw Western Michigan battle back from an early deficit and tied the game at 16-16 on an attack error. Two more attack errors resulted in the Broncos taking an 18-16 lead that the team did not relinquish, ending the set on a 14-3 run.
CMU built early leads in both the second and the third set and rode them to wins and a 2-1 lead.
The Chippewas jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the fourth set but after a kill by Jordan Bueter, WMU took control of the set. The Broncos scored the next 10 points to take a 12-5 lead and only allowed Central Michigan to add another four points, dominating them 25-9.
WMU jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the fifth set but CMU chipped away it and kept within two for moest of the set. A Central Michigan attack error gave the Broncos a 13-11 lead but the Chippewas responded with four-straight points to close out the set and the match.
The Broncos look to snap back with their next four matches all at University Arena, beginning on Friday against Toledo at 7 p.m. WMU also hosts Ball State on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
