CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Friday, Aug. 28, the release of the 2015-16 MAC Women's Basketball conference schedule.
The MAC will welcome in the New Year with conference play slated to kick off on Saturday, Jan. 2 as all 12 teams will be in action. Western Michigan will travel to reigning league champion Ohio to start its MAC schedule. The Broncos host Bowling Green for their first home game, Wednesday, Jan. 6. All game times are still to be determined.
MAC women's basketball teams will play 18-games over 10-weeks (9 home, 9 away) this season. Each school will play seven teams (5 in division, 2 cross division) twice and four (cross division) teams once. This year's additional cross-divisional games (1 home, 1 away) were randomly selected.
The women's basketball regular season will come to a close on Saturday, March 5. This year's MAC women's basketball tournament will begin Monday, March 7 with first round games on campus before moving to Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena (March 9-12).
Western Michigan is coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history, boasting a 20-13 overall record - one victory shy of tying the school record for wins (21) set in 1978. The 2014-15 campaign was just the fourth 20-win season in school history and the program made its fourth ever appearance in the WNIT.
WMU went 11-7 during MAC regular season play, finishing tied for second in the MAC West and fourth overall in the conference, the team's best finish since 2006. The Broncos also won two games in the MAC Tournament for first time since 2003, defeating Bowling Green and Central Michigan. WMU is entering its fourth season under head coach Shane Clipfell.
