Western Michigan Announces 2015 Men?s Soccer Schedule

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan head men's soccer coach Chad Wiseman has released the upcoming 2015 schedule. On slate for the Broncos are two exhibition games and 18 regular season contests, 10 of those at home.

“I am very happy to release the 2015 game schedule,” said Wiseman. “We think it is a great slate with some of the best programs across the nation.

“Ten home matches and a home exhibition should yield for a very enjoyable fall for our families, friends and supporters. Our game complex has made great strides over the last couple of years thanks to the fantastic support we have received from both the University and also from extremely generous donors. This has allowed us to schedule some of the top non-conference programs in the country and bring them right here to Kalamazoo.”

Highlights of this year's home schedule include the Radisson Invitational, Sept. 11 & 13 at the WMU Soccer Complex. The Broncos will host a four-team tournament involving Detroit, St. Bonaventure and Western Illinois. That will begin a stretch of games where WMU is home for four of five games, also welcoming Dayton, Valparaiso and St. Mary's over the following two weeks.

“For the first time in WMU history we will be hosting a four-team tournament, the Radisson Invitational.” Wiseman said. “I would like to thank the downtown Radisson Hotel for their help and generous support in helping this tournament come to life. I am sure it will be an exciting weekend of college soccer for the entire Kalamazoo community.”

Another notable stretch of home games are contests against Mid-American Conference opponent Bowling Green, regional power Green Bay and nationally ranked Akron in October. Western Michigan upset Akron, ranked No. 19 at the time, last year on the road 1-0. It was just Akron's second MAC regular-season loss over the last eight seasons.

WMU officially opens the home schedule with Marshall on Aug. 28 and closes it with Buffalo on Nov. 7. Exhibition games are on the road at Indiana and at home against Alma.

The Broncos will go on the road to two Big Ten opponents, facing Michigan State Oct. 13 and Michigan Oct. 27. WMU has defeated Michigan two of the last three meetings, dating back to 2011, with both wins coming in Ann Arbor.

Other non-conference opponents include IPFW, IUPUI, Detroit and Bradley. WMU is on the road against MAC opponents West Virginia and Northern Illinois.

“Our non-conference portion of the schedule certainly prepares us for the MAC portion of the schedule which is the most important,” Wiseman said. “The MAC is one of the top mid-major conferences in the country, having been ranked the seventh toughest conference based on the overall RPI over the last year. I look forward to seeing all of our fans out at the matches this year.”
