Broncos Standing Out on Summer Baseball Teams

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- A number of Western Michigan baseball players are continuing to hone their skills playing in summer wooden bat baseball leagues across the country. A few in particular have recently stood out with their play.

Junior Grant Miller is hitting .356 for the Chillicothe Paints ranking him in the top 10 in batting average in the Prospect League. Miller also ranks in the top five for on-base percentage (.487), on-base plus slugging  (.995) and slugging percentage (.508). His fielding percentage is an impressive .967, playing the majority of the time at third base with appearances at second base as well.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Tanner Allison has been dealing on the mound the first few weeks of the summer also playing for Chillicothe. He has three starts with four total appearances. His 0.56 ERA is second best among starters in the Prospect League. Allison has 18 punch outs while issuing just seven walks and has two wins, throwing 16 innings. He has surrendered just one extra base hit.

Junior left-handed pitcher Keegan Akin is playing in the premier summer league in the country suting up with the Bourne Braves of the famous Cape Cod League in Massachusetts. In his first outing threw 3.2 innings of impressive relief, giving up just one hit and striking out four, facing 17 batters. In his next outing he faced 18 hitters over 4.1 innings and struck out five.
