Track & Field Announces 2016 Indoor Schedule

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track & field team announced it's 2016 indoor schedule that features nine different meets all of which are on the road. The season starts on Jan. 9 at Bowling Green and ends on March 11-12 at the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Alabama.

“I think it's going to be a challenging schedule. Our goal is to get our players out to compete with the best teams in the country to prepare for later in the season,” Head coach Kelly Lycan said. “This schedule looks to be an upgrade from last year and these first few meets will be good for the freshman. It will challenge the whole range of athletes on our team and we can find out where they are at on the team early in the season.”

The season opens at the Bowling Green State University Challenge on Jan. 9 where the Broncos expect to see a few of the conference rivals. On Jan. 23, WMU heads to the Notre Dame Invite to face some top-notch competition on a 300-meter track, which is the type of track being used at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships this season. On Jan. 29-30 at the Jack Johnson Invitational, the Broncos plan on seeing top-tier opponents along with the chance to compete in the pentathlon. On Feb. 12-13, WMU will head to the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. to help prepare for the NCAA Championships. The MAC Championships are hosted by Akron this season on Feb. 26-27 before the squad gears up for the NCAA Championships on March 11-12 at the University of Alabama.
