KALAMAZOO, Mich.- For the second straight year, Western Michigan senior center back
Connor Furgason was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-North/Central Region First Team. Furgason maintains a 3.62 cumulative grade point average, majoring in marketing.
With his recognition last year, Furgason became WMU's first NSCAA Academic All-Region selection since 1992. Repeating the honor this year, he becomes WMU's first ever two-time selection.
“Connor has been a one of the best student-athletes to ever put on the Bronco soccer uniform,” said WMU head coach
Chad Wiseman. “He has had a fantastic career in every phase of our program. I want to thank and congratulate Connor for all he has done for our soccer program, athletic department and University.”
For his performance on the field this season, Furgason earned Third-Team All-Region and First Team All-Mid-American Conference honors. WMU's starting center back for the last three seasons, Furgason helped WMU post a school-record 12 shutouts in 2015 and contributed three goals offensively.
The Broncos finished the season with an 11-4-4 record, going 3-1-1 in MAC. The 11 wins was one shy of the school record and during the regular season, WMU tied No. 5 ranked Akron, 1-1.
