Men's Ice Hockey WMU

WMU vs CC Quotes, 12-12-15

Head Coach Andy Murray
On the game overall…
“We have a lot of respect for Colorado College coming into this weekend and winning three previous games and swept Miami in tight games. We knew to have success we needed to manage the puck ourselves. We managed it and we put some pressure on their defensemen. I'd like to say that we are opportunistic on all of our chances but we still missed a lot of chances. Our guys competed and we played the third period with 10 forwards. When you're playing with 10 forwards it's best not to take penalties but we were shooting ourselves in the foot there. We need to be a little smarter in that aspect of the game. But at this particular point after these two games is great for our young men and it's nice to see them smiling and hear them sing the Bronco Fight Song after the hockey game.”

On Griffen Molino
“It's pretty self explanatory if you get seven points in a weekend you've done some good things. What I liked about Griffen is that he was playing north-south and he wasn't taking pucks back and swinging back. He was really playing a linear game. With his speed when he gets going towards the net and funnels everything at the net he's really got an opportunity to affect every play. I thought he was solid. Colt Conrad had his first shift there in the third period and with guys being out we got him out there. He was on the ice for 10 seconds and then the puck was in the back of the net which was a huge goal for us at that particular point.”

On player performance…
“We're still a work in progress. We're integrating a lot of young players. I like our determination and they are a quality group who take it very seriously and came to work. It was tough for us around here and we're not used to losing with this program. These wins were certainly important for us. In the NCHC every single night you know you are going to play a tough opponent. We don't schedule any soft opponents in non-conference either. We expect the best from our people and we as administrators and coaches design things that way.”

On playing same goalie throughout series…
Lukas Hafner had hip surgery and was out most of the summer. From a medical perspective it wasn't advisable to play him in back-to-back games. I told the goalies this week that whoever starts on Friday has the opportunity to start onSaturday. So we're at the point right now where Lukas is able to play back-to-back and if he is deserving he'll be in there. Colin Olson is a great goalie. Trevor Gorsuch is not our third goalie he is a good goalie as well. We expect to win when we put any of the three in.”

Junior Forward Michael Rebry
On the weekend overall…
“Confidence. We had a little bit of a dry spell there but we got the boys going. We brought the lunch to work every day and put the hard hat on. We needed bear down.”

On finishing opportunities…
“We beared down on chances. When we got the opportunity we capitalized and it worked out.”

On playing men down…
“Two guys went down but you come together like a team, like we always do, and bear down for a third period.”

On feeling after sweep…
“You can't change the past but we've got to stay humble. We've got two under the belt so we just go to work from here.”

Freshman Forward Griffen Molino
On finishing opportunities…
“It's really important when you try to bring a consistent effort every night and as a group I thought we pulled through and did that. That's how we cleaned up the weekend and go two wins.”

On playing men down…
“That's just hockey for you and stuff happens. Guys gets hurt and guys get ejected. I think guys stepped up and filled those spots and worked really hard. Obviously the last 20 minutes of a weekend are going to be tough on everyone but I think that the guys really came together and found it in themselves to get it done.”

On feeling after sweep…
“We're feeling pretty good about ourselves right now and we're going to try and keep that rolling and put whatever is in the past behind us.”

On his performance this weekend…
“I think it's just keeping it simple. That line with me, Nolan LaPorte and Michael Rebry was really working tonight and we were just keeping our feet moving. There's a lot of speed on that line so getting pucks to the net and controlling the puck down low seemed to really work for us against this squad.”
