Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Griffen Molino had a career-high four points and the Western Michigan completed the weekend sweep of Colorado College after a 5-3 win at Lawson Ice Arena on Saturday night.

Molino tallied two goals and two assists to break his previous career high he set in Friday's win. Nolan LaPorte had a goal and an assist for his first multi-point game of the season. The Broncos (6-10-1, 4-6-0-0 NCHC) also picked up goals from Michael Rebry and Colt Conrad, while Lukas Hafner made 30 saves, including 17 in the third period to earn the win.

The Broncos jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Molino's second goal of the weekend at 3:47 in the first period. LaPorte fired a shot at the net and the rebound deflected off of the freshman and into the net for his fourth goal of the season. Taylor Fleming also picked up an assist on the goal.

LaPorte pushed the lead to 2-0 with his fourth goal of the season at 7:30. Chris Dienes found LaPorte near the goal line and the senior forward skated out to the left circle and beat Tyler Marble over his stick-side shoulder. Molino also notched an assist on the goal, his eighth of the season.

Colorado College's Trey Bradley punched in a rebound on a shot by Teemu Kivihalme to cut the lead to 2-1 just 1:26 into the second period.

Rebry netted his second goal of the weekend at 10:12 to push the lead to 3-1. Neal Goff ripped a shot from the left point that went wide. The rebound bounced right off the board and to Rebry in the right circle and he put it into an open net. Molino also tallied his second assist of the game on the goal.

Conrad pushed the lead to 4-1 at 6:53 in the third period. Aidan Muir won a battle on the right wall out to Mike McKee. McKee found Conrad coming off the bench on a change and the freshman forward sent his shot off the right post and into the net for his fourth goal of the season and third in the series.

Bradley added his second of the night to cut the lead to 4-2 at 10:26. After a penalty was called on the Broncos Sam Rothstein won a faceoff back to Andrew Farny and Farny pushed it off the Bradley. Bradley fired a rocket past Hafner for his seventh of the season.

Alex Roos brought the Tigers even closer just minutes later at 13:47 with his first goal of the season.

Western Michigan outshot Colorado College 38-33 but went 0-for-3 on the power play with 10 shots. WMU's penalty kill rebounded to hold CC to just 1-for-7 on the night, limiting them to just six shots on goal during the man advantage.

The Broncos focus on their academics with finals coming up next week and are off until a trip to Toledo, Ohio and The Huntington Center to battle Bowling Green on Dec. 30 at 5 p.m. WMU returns to Lawson Ice Arena on Jan. 9 to take on Notre Dame.

The two teams battled in the final minutes but Molino put the nail in the coffin with an empty-net goal with 37 seconds left in the game to push the lead to 5-3.
