Women's Soccer Wins Fourth-Straight

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team extended its winning streak to four games and its unbeaten streak to six after a 1-0 win at Eastern Michigan on Friday afternoon.

Alex Ruffer scored the game's lone goal in the 57th minute for the game-winner. WMU keeper Stephanie Heber needed to make just three saves to earn the ninth shutout of the season. The Broncos dominated possession with 21 shots and allowing just eight by the Eagles on the afternoon.

"I thought we did a great job of playing with a lot of energy in the second half," said head coach Nate Norman. "Eastern Michigan is a very good team and I was very proud of the way that we competed throughout the game, but especially in the second half."

After a scoreless first half the Broncos turned up the pressure that resulted in Ruffer's goal at 56:26. Sophomore left back Alyssa Smith brought the ball up the left side of the field and crossed it through the box. Ruffer was sitting at the back post and headed it in for her first collegiate goal.

Kendal Juhnke led WMU with five shots overall, landing two on net.

WMU has a quick turnaround and plays at Bowling Green on Sunday at 1 p.m.
