Coach Fleck Inducted in Kaneland HS Hall of Fame

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - P.J. Fleck is being inducted into the Kaneland High School Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Monday, June 2.

Prior to becoming the youngest head coach in Division I-FBS, Coach Fleck was a three-sport  star in football, basketball and track.

On the gridiron, Fleck was a part of back-to-back state championship teams that went a combined 28-0.  He was an All-State wide receiver during his junior and senior seasons, leading the state with 95 receptions in 1998.  His 95 catches as a senior, as well as his 199 career receptions were both Kaneland HS records at the time of his graduation.

Fleck's athletic aptitudes carried over to the hardwood as he was an All-State guard in 1999, averaging 25.0 points per game.

On the track, Fleck shined as well.  He was named All-State in three different events as a junior in 1998, finishing fifth in the intermediate hurdles and was a member of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams that finished fifth and eighth in the state, respectively.  As a senior, Fleck matched his junior season effort, earning All-State in three events in 1999 as well.  He finished fourth in the intermediate hurdles, anchored the 4x400 relay team to a third place finish and finished runner up in the state in the long jump.  His efforts helped Kaneland HS to a third place team finish.

Fleck, his former HS coach Joe Thorgesen and John McQuade will be honored at the ceremony, which is one of two ceremonies honoring the entire six member class.  The other three inductees were recognized during an event held in early May.
