KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team rolled in its final tune-up before the start of the Mid-American Conference season, dominating the Ferris State Bulldogs en route to a 7-0 victory on Tuesday at West Hills Athletic Club. With the win, the Broncos improve to 10-8 on the season.
The doubles pairing of Nadin Indre and Stephen Payne returned to their winning ways after dropping several in a row as a duo, dominating the pair of Laurent Galarneau and Aaron Dial 8-2 in the No. 1 singles match. Ruben Greiner and Jimmy Beckwith teamed up to clinch the doubles point, coming off the courts just moments later for an 8-4 win over Otto Kerezstes and Laurent Mailloux in the No. 2 match. Andrew Cahn and Michael Treis rounded out the session with a come-from-behind effort, rallying from a 6-5 deficit to win three of the final four games in beating Jose Calero and Will Huntington 8-6.
Greiner was the first singles player off the court for the Broncos, making short work of Dial in the No. 2 singles match to put the Broncos ahead by a 2-0 score. Pablo Mora finished his match mere seconds later, dfeating Andre Giacomazzi Serafim in the No. 6 singles match by a 6-1, 6-1 score. The match was clinched on the opposite side of the facility, with Indre delivering the final stroke against Galarneau; the senior held off a hard charge in the final set to win 6-3, 6-4 for his 13th win at No. 1 singles of the year.
Freshman Matt Hamilton continued his impressive run with a straight sets win over Kerezstes in the No. 4 singles match, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 decision, and Cahn outlasted Mailloux 9-7 in a second-set tiebreaker to win at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 7-6 (7). Treis rounded out the team scoring and wrapped the match with a win over Calero at No. 5 singles, downing him 6-2, 6-2 to seal the 7-0 shutout score.
