KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team recorded its 1,000th win in program history with a dominant effort at home, as the Broncos defeated the Grand Valley State Lakers 6-1 at West Hills Athletic Club on Wednesday. With the win, the Broncos improve to 9-8 on the season.
The historic victory came in part by a doubles session sweep, as well as five singles wins out of six in the capper. Freshman Matt Hamilton had the honor of recording the clinching victory, defeating the Lakers' Jack Heiniger 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles match. Hamilton was also successful in doubles play, teaming with Michael Treis to defeat Billy Heckman and Ben Esh-Nauta 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles match; that win was the first of the session for the Broncos.
Nadin Indre and Ruben Greiner teamed up to clinch the doubles point for the Broncos, winning at No. 1 doubles against Francis Bertrand and Andrew Bole. Stephen Payne and Andrew Cahn wrapped doubles play with a win over Heiniger and Quinn Sylow, winning 8-3 in the No. 2 doubles match.
Indre and Greiner both won their respective singles matches as well, with Indre blowing past Bertrand 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match and Greiner defeating Andrew Darrell 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 2 competition. Cahn prevailed in a tight match with Heckman at No. 3 singles, winning 6-4, 6-4, and Treis cruised against Sylow at No. 5 in winning 6-1, 6-0.
