WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League have announced the signing of Western Michigan Bronco forward
Dane Walters to an amateur try out agreement on Friday afternoon.
Walters leaves WMU after four historic seasons with the Broncos. He appeared in 144 total games, scoring 39 goals and 44 assists for 83 points. The St. Paul, Minn., native had a career-best season his junior year when he helped lead the Broncos to a Central Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament Championship. He led the team with 16 goals, totalled 29 points and finished the season with a +15 plus/minus rating. Walters netted one of three goals in the CCHA Championship game to help the Broncos defeat Michigan, 3-2.
This season he was one of three members of the Brown & Gold to captain the squad. He finished tied for the team lead with 25 points and led the team with 12 goals. Walters became just the second Bronco in program history to win the CCHA's Best Defensive Forward Award, joining assistant coach
Pat Ferschweiler, who won it in 1994.
Walters joins former teammate
Matt Tennyson, who signed with the San Jose Sharks after last season and has appeared in 60 games and racked up 27 points this season with Worcester.
