Quotes: WMU vs Miami 2/8/13
Head Coach Andy Murray
On the game overall...
"I thought
tonight's game was an intense and physical game. Both teams played extremely
hard, and the goalies played outstanding. You have the number one team in the
country, and we were number three so it was a battle. Neither team plays a
sit-back style of defense, and both like to generate their offensive chances."
On Miami's offensive pressure in the second...
"Miami is a puck
pressure team. They have achieved their standings in the NCAA and CCHA because
they are that type of team. I also like our puck pressure tonight. You know
that it is going to be a sixty minute battle when you are playing against these
guys."
On Frank Slubowski's performance...
"Well with a
shutout you have to like his performance. He played tremendously tonight. In
the first period he made one that I have no idea how he stopped it. What I like
about Frank is how he is managing the puck around the net, he is definitely
doing a much better job at that."
Junior Forward Chase Balisy
On the importance of tonight's win...
"They were in
first place coming in to tonight. We knew that this was going to be a tough
game; every game against Miami is tough. We had a lot of guys step up tonight,
like Miller on defense and Beebe upfront. I think we played well."
On difficulty of maintaining a lead...
"One-goal leads
are hard. Any time you can get that second goal it's a bonus. It's just getting
one shot, and that's the way we looked at it. Frank played great in the net tonight
and that definitely helped us out."
Junior Defenseman Dan DeKeyser
On tonight's game...
"It was a tough
game like we expected, and it definitely stayed close. We had to grind it out,
but it felt good to get that win."
On defensive effort...
"Coming in to
tonight we knew we would have to play solid defensively. They have some top
scorers, especially on their top line. We knew that to have a chance to win we
would have to shut those guys down. We were big on penalty kills and that
definitely helped."
On Frank Slubowski's performance...
"He better be
proud of his performance after that win. He's been doing it for us for the last
year and a half, and he brings a lot to the game for us in the net."
Sophomore Goalie Frank Slubowski
On Miami's offense...
"They are shifty
and have a lot of skill. They make great plays and they have some top forwards,
stats-wise."
On the third period...
"We tried to
battle and get one in there. We came up big defensively with a lot of blocked
shots."
On the penalty kill...
"Coach Ferschweiler
did a great job. The defensemen did a great job clearing it from in front of
the net."
On his feeling after the game..
"Yeah it felt good,
especially when a team with that much skill comes to your building. You really
want to make a statement and we were able to do that."
