Thoughts for tomorrow's game
“I think we just need to get more shots on net, get in front of the goalie's eyes and shoot pucks.”
Were they wearing us down with their play
“No, we were talking in the locker room right after the game, we thought we took it to them except for when they were on the power play. We thought we controlled the game, it was just those two power play goals.”
Head Coach Andy Murray
Overall thoughts on the game
“Well I thought it was a mans game tonight there and that's not meant as an insult being a female but it was hard, it was physical. Coaching in those kind of games, playing in those kind of games is what the game is all about. From our perspective, we liked our 5-on-5 game a great deal. Obviously we came out on the short end and special teams and we need to be better on our power play and I believe 7 opportunities failed to execute. Now that wasn't a matter of not having chances, we had some unbelievable chances on our power play and their goal tender played a stellar game for them and then we ended up giving up two goals. We didn't agree with a call on the 5-on-3 but that's the way the game operates. We were not good enough on special teams but I liked our energy, I liked our worth ethic, and I liked our determination. I would suspect it would be the same sort of game tomorrow, we talked to our players about how anything less is unacceptable tomorrow. It is why these college games are interesting, its not like football where you have to wait a week to play again, we get back at it tomorrow and we are expecting more of the same it will be a battle.
Power Play- what it takes
“I think we scored in 4 games in a row on the power play and our percentage actually, we got off to such a dismal start this year on our power play that we hadn't scored and in recent games even better we got one in the Huntsville game and we need to finish. We have great looks, we had great chances, on that 5-on-3 that puck copped over a couple sticks, we had some great shots. Kenney Morrison goes to take one and he breaks his stick. We just have to stay persistent and stay after it and we have got to have a 5-on-5 mentality on our play where we just go out there and out work them and try and wear the penalty killers out and you may not score at the beginning of a power play but if you stay after it, you will gradually wear them down and get one by the end. I was encouraged by how we created chances but we need to finish.”
Senior Forward Chase Balisy
What do you say to the guys after a game like this
“ I think we just have to stick with it, we battled them the full 60 tonight, we played in their zone and we did the things we had to do but, our power play has got to find a way to get a goal and our penalty kill has got to be better.”
Thoughts on UND play tonight
“We know they're a good team and they have a lot of talent, we just have to keep working and that is our motto of our team. We're a team that works team, grinds on teams, and it really doesn't matter what happened we just have to keep working and play the full 60.”
What to do different tomorrow
“Obviously our power play has got to be better. Individually guys have to be better on the power play and we have to find a way to put the puck in the net, get some guys in front and then penalty kill wise we have to get the pucks out and not give them second chances.”
