Broncos Fall 1-0 at Denver

DENVER -- Sophomore goalie Lukas Hafner made 22 saves in his first collegiate start but the Western Michigan Broncos fell to Denver, 1-0, on Saturday night at Magness Arena.

Denver's David Makowski scored the lone goal of the game at 6:40 in the second period on a five-on-three power play goal from the high slot.

The Broncos were held to just three shots on goal in the opening period but responded by outshooting the Pioneers 23-15 from that point with a 15-4 edge int he third period. DU goalie Sam Brittain was tough to crack in net and earned the shutout making 26 saves on the night.

WMU was held scoreless on seven power plays but threatened often with 11 of the Broncos' 26 shots coming with the man advantage. Denver also did a good job of limiting Western Michigan's scoring opportunities by blocking 21 shots on the night.

Western Michigan heads to Michigan State on Friday before hosting the Spartans the following Saturday at 7:05 p.m. from Lawson Ice Arena.
