FRANK SLUBOWSKI: IRON MAN• THE STREAK: WMU goalie
Frank Slubowski enters this season in the midst of a 58-game consecutive start streak that began on Jan. 13, 2012 in a 3-2 win at Notre Dame.
• THE NUMBERS: During the streak he is 30-19-9 with a 2.00 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.
• A LONG WAY TO GO: While 58 is a program record at Western Michigan it is a long way from the NCAA record of 104, set by Cornell goalie Ben Scrivens from 2007-10. Currently only Andy Illes, also at Cornell, has a longer running streak than Slubowski. He enters the season at 70.
THE RACE TO 100• CHASE BALISY: Balisy just sits eight points away from becoming the 52nd Bronco to compile 100 points in a career. WMU's captain has 92 points on 36 goals and 56 assists. So far in his career he has averaged 30.67 points per season.
• SHANE BERSCHBACH: Berschbach needs 21 points to break the century mark, currently sitting at 79 on 23 goals and 56 assists. He has averaged 26.33 per season in his career.
THE NEW ERA• MEET THE NEW NEIGHBORS: A new era of Western Michigan hockey begins as the Broncos move to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference this season. Between the eight programs there have been 107 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, 50 appearances in the Frozen Four and 17 National Championships. Miami and WMU came from the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and the rest came from the Western College Hockey Association. Nebraska-Omaha has the largest rink in the league with the 15,959 seat CenturyLink Center and Miami's Steve Cady Arena is the smallest at 3,642.
