Big Second Period Leads WMU to 6-0 Rout of Bemidji

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The offensive flood gates opened for No. 10/7 Western Michigan on the road as the Broncos defeated Bemidji State 6-0 at the Sanford Center on Friday night.

Colton Hargrove netted two goals, while Chase Balisy Mike Leone, Dane Walters and Ben Warda each netted a goal in the route. Balisy and Walters each had two point nights with an assist to go along with their goals. Dan DeKeyser finished with two assists and plus-three on the night.

Balisy started the flurry of second period goals just 36 seconds in on his seventh of the season. He picked up a pass from Dennis Brown and fired it towards the net. The puck deflected off of BSU goalie Andrew Walsh's skate and into the net. Brown tallied his eighth

Just over three minutes later Dan DeKeyser fired the puck up the Mike Cichy at center ice and he hit Hargrove skating down the right side. The freshman forward took it in and fired it stick-side and into the net for his first collegiate goal.

Just 1:01 later Leone pushed the lead to 3-0 at 4:42 in the second period. Brett Beebe found Leone in front of the net and the senior forward backhanded it to Walsh's stick-side and into the net for his third of the season. Jordan Oesterle also tallied an assist on the goal.

At 8:21 Walters gave WMU a 4-0 lead after a break-out pass by Shane Bershbach resulted in an odd-man advantage for the Broncos. Balisy found Walters streaking through the right circle and he one-timed it into the net.

Hargrove added his second of the night and second of his career at 7:51 in the third period to push the Bronco lead to 5-0. A shot by DeKeyser got loose in the crease and Hargrove reached to poke it in. Leone also tallied an assist on the goal.

Warda netted the final goal of the game at 10:31 in the third period on a tremendous individual effort. Warda stripped a BSU forward at the blue line and skated into the slot, firing it over Walsh's stick-side shoulder and in for his second goal of the season.

The Broncos finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while holding the Beavers 0-for-3. WMU outshot BSU 27-15 on the night, holding them to four shots in both the first and third periods.
