Head Coach Andy Murray
On
tonight's game overall...
"I thought it was very physical
game that had a lot of energy in it from the onset. Michigan is obviously a
tremendous team and they came in here and played very strong. I thought our
team was much better tonight. We were focusing on what we needed to get done.
We had more speed and tempo than last night, and from there we found a way to
get some goals."
On
the second period/puck possession...
"I think our puck possession was
good. We make good decisions and make it difficult for other teams to play
offense against us. I've always said that we want to play the first twenty
seconds of every shift in their zone so their too tired when they're on
offense. They're a great team and I'm sure we're going to face them down the
road this season."
On
performance by the younger players...
"We need those young guys stepping
up because they're no longer young guys. They've been here for over twenty
games now, and we expect them to be able to contribute and play hard. What I
like about their game tonight is that they played smart."
On
the series overall...
"We've played some good hockey. We
went in to Bemidji and played two strong games, and against Lake Superior we
played strong as well. Then we went to Bowling Green and played hard there, and
ended up losing one there but coming back and getting a win here. If we look at
our games overall, last night was probably our weakest game but we found a way
to elevate our play. We knew our opponent would be better, and we would need to
match that."
On
special teams this weekend...
"We didn't like our first power
play for sure, but that's why power play numbers change over the course of the
year."
On
playing Michigan at home...
"Bottom line is that we want to be
playing home playoff games, and if that's Michigan then that's fine. The energy
in this building has been like that all year, but when Michigan comes to town
it's an exciting time for us. We know the caliber of their players and the
program they have. I think our fans were excited. Our fans were tremendous all
weekend. I think our Lawson Lunatics were out in full force, and in a classy
way as well from what I heard. They just mean so much to us."
Junior Forward Shane Berschbach
On
sweeping Michigan at home...
"It's huge. It's definitely awesome
for our school and our hockey program. The battle we had to bring both nights
shows what this meant to us. Our guys really stuck with it, and did something
big for our school."
On
team's performance at this point in the season...
"I think we're moving forward. We
weren't as good as we needed to be last night, and we knew we needed to step it
up tonight. I think we did that tonight. We had contributions from all over. We
are moving forward really strong from this series."
On
Hargrove's first goal tonight...
"He's a great player and he's going
to the net hard and he's getting rewarded."
On
his possession in the second period...
"I think we had a better start then
we did last night which was a big help. We got down one goal in the second, but
we came back hard and responded."
Freshman Forward Colton Hargrove
On
his first goal tonight...
"First Cichy made a great play and
got the puck out of the zone. Then Pitt saw me coming up the middle and gave me
a nice pass. It's just kind of an instinct now that when the puck is going
across, you want to send the puck back the other way. I ended up tapping it in
with the help of Mike and Josh."
On
his performance this weekend...
"I'm feeling pretty confident. I've
talked to all the coaches and they told me to be physical and make plays, and
be smart at the same time. I played my game. I got some hits and crashed the
net and was able to get some goals."
On
Cichy's addition to the line...
"He definitely adds something. He's
played college hockey before; Josh and I are freshmen so he adds that
experience. He's physical and sees the ice well. He can find me and Josh
whenever we're open."
On
sweeping Michigan..
"It's pretty surreal. It's the
first time that we've swept them at home since 1986. It's an awesome feeling.
Coach Facca came in afterwards pretty pumped up. I know the seniors are
excited; it's a great feeling and I'm happy for them. It's just awesome."
