Head Coach Andy Murray
On tonight's game...
"It was an
intense game, like every hockey game is. They are a great rival and play hard.
They have quality players and are well organized as a team. I like the
structure that their coaches have brought to their game. Compliments to them,
and compliments to our guys too. We challenged our guys in our morning meeting
to elevate their game; we were disappointed with the result last night, and
certainly this has a much better feeling to it."
On special team's performance...
"We scored a
huge goal on the power play and we killed all of the penalties. I would say
that's pretty good."
On tonight's game versus last night's play...
"We did a better
job of hitting the net tonight. Tonight we were putting pucks on net and
creating rebound opportunities. They play a very aggressive game and they do a
good job with it. It is a battle to play against them. Their goal tender plays
well, but Frankie was solid for us as well. It was very similar to the game
last night, but we were just better around the net and generated more chances
tonight."
On Leone's goal...
"I thought there
was a lot of determination. I thought Ben Warda was instrumental in that goal.
I also thought that Justin Kovacs may have played his best game as a Bronco.
That's the kind of intensity we are looking for from Justin. It was a
hardworking goal, made by a hardnosed player. A guy that knows his game was not
at the right level last night and needed to be better tonight."
Senior Forward Mike Leone
On his goal tonight...
"Bowling Green
is a hardworking team, and they definitely competed through all three periods
today. We just focused on taking pucks to the net which makes us a hard team to
play against. The puck was in the corner and I just tried to throw it in front
and sure enough it went in. It was a big goal for our team. We also stepped up
majorly on the penalty kill; when we were down 5-on-3 guys really gutted it
out. It was a great team effort tonight."
On finishing shots tonight...
"I didn't have
my game last night. I felt like I let my team down. I'm a senior, and I stepped
my game up. We just had to focus on getting pucks to the net tonight. We all
knew we could play a lot better. We just in the fight, and it was a huge win
for us."
Senior Defenseman Luke Witkowski
On his goal...
"We've talked
about that play before. I actually found Cichy in practice earlier this week
the same way. I just got in the hole and Kovacs had a big screen and it went
in."
On the penalty kill tonight...
"The 5-on-3 was
a big kill. We had three of our captains out there and I think we did a pretty
good job. We really battled until the end. I think we did a solid job all
night."
On splitting with Bowling Green...
"They're a hard
team to play. It was a 2-1 game tonight which obviously says a lot. Their
record does not show what kind team they are. They are a bunch of hard workers
and they have a really good goal tender. We expect every time we play them that
it is going to be a battle, and every it has been all four years that I've
played here."
On being tied for first place...
"I don't think it really matters, what
matters is where we are at the end. We will go to practice and work hard and
prepare for Michigan this upcoming weekend."
