Hockey Quotes: WMU vs
LSSU 1/12/13
Head Coach Andy
Murray
On effort tonight...
"I think our work effort both nights was really good from
the drop of the puck. We had written on the board this morning '7:05' because
that was when we needed to be ready to go. And I think we were ready tonight."
On shots tonight...
"I think we had a lot of tremendous shots. I think we moved
the puck probably better tonight, even though we had less shots on goal.
They're a tough team to play against. They hang in there and their coaches have
them well structured. We had to battle for everything we got tonight. We are
talking a game that was basically a one-goal-game in the third period and we
were having trouble scoring. We recognized the quality of our opponent, and
kept our guard up at all times. The big thing to me was not the shots for, but
keeping the shots against down."
On defensive effort by
LSSU...
"A key to the hockey game is the penalty kill, that five on
three in the second period. We did a great job because guys were out there
sacrificing, and pressuring when we had the opportunity. On the other side we
had our chances and we had to bury one of those. Then in the third period
Dennis Brown comes on the ice and scored and important goal for us in a great
play."
Dane Walters Senior
Forward
On results after an
80+ shots on goal weekend...
"We have been making an emphasis on our team to skate pucks
to the net and we did really well tonight. We didn't do as well yesterday, but
we created traffic tonight and were able to capitalize three times."
On special team's
performance...
"The penalty kill has been great. We killed off that five on
three tonight which was a huge momentum boost for our team. Then on the power
play when you can put two in the net that definitely going to boost morale of
the team."
On Brown's goal...
"We've been trying to get more shots and tonight we found
him backdoor and he buried it. He did really well."
Dennis Brown Junior
Defenseman
On what he saw going
into his goal...
"Chase made a nice play to Kenney, he looked for the shot
but actually passed to me over in the corner. I just shot it and it snuck
between Murdock's legs."
On his offensive play
tonight...
"Yeah, it is a different spot for Kenney and I. We work on
it every week in practice to get more comfortable with it. I don't plan on
staying there very long, but it was good that I got the opportunity."
