Broncos Earn Tough Win at Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Kyle Farris scored off the bench and goalkeeper Sean Lewis made five saves as the Western Michigan men's soccer team shutout Valparaiso, 1-0, on the road at Brown Field on Friday night.

Farris scored the game's lone goal at 32:34 in the first half. Erik Kelly flicked on a long throw into the box by Yllson Asani towards the back post. Farris ran on and one-timed a shot into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

"It was a very tough battle and I'm happy we managed to come away with another important victory," said head coach Stu Riddle.

Lewis made four of his five saves in the second half to preserve the shutout. The Crusaders outshot WMU 16-5 including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. Darren Jones led all Broncos with two shots, including one on net in the first half.

The Broncos continue their three-game road swing at Wright State on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
