WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Western Michigan track and field's Andrea Hiler became the first Bronco in program history to reach 170 feet, setting the school record in the discus throw to highlight the Dave Rankin Invitational at Purdue University on Saturday afternoon.

Hiler, who's previous persona-best was 166-3, broke former Bronco Sarah Morris' record of 169-7 with a personal-best distance of 172-4 to take second overall and the top collegiate finisher. Morris, who finished up her senior year last season, competed unattached and threw a personal-best distance of 176-4.

"We've had some good discus throwers over the years," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "It's kind of neat to see Andrea get that record, being a local kid from Watervliet. She has been really consistent over the past few weeks and it definitely paid off today."

Freshman Rebecca Hall picked up her first career collegiate victories, winning both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. The Berrien Springs, Mich., native ran a personal-best time of 11.99 seconds. In the 200 she finished at 24.48 seconds, .44 seconds faster than Elise Glass of Purdue's second place time.

Hall, along with Iris Campbell, Andrea Arnold, Iris Campbell and Lindsey Hufnagel claimed first place in the 4x100 meter relay. Despite a rocky exchange after the first leg, the team recovered to turn in a time of 46.82 seconds.

WMU also claimed wins in the 1,500 meter run and the 400 meter dash. The Broncos finished in the top four spots in the 1,500. Rachel Whitley led the pack, finishing with a time of 4:38.85. Whitley's pace helped Aisha Hodge and Cara Cremeans each set personal-best times. Hodge took second place at 4:39.06, while Cremeans finished in third with a time of 4:39.47. Jeriesha Tucker rounded out the top four with a time of 4:42.02.

Campbell claimed first place in the 400 with a time of 55.15 seconds. She also turned in a personal-best time in the 100 meter hurdles, breaking 14 seconds for the first time in her career at 13:98. Chiara Allen also had a career day in the event with a time of 14.24 to take fourth place.

Another personal best came in the 5,000 meter run by Amber Brunmeier. The senior distance specialist took first place with a time of 16:56.13. It was the first time in her career she broke 17 minutes. Her time also places her fourth all-time on the WMU 5k performance list.

The team splits up next week with a select few heading to the famed Drake Relays, while the others will compete at the Hillsdale Relays.
