WMU Quotes - 3/9

Mike Leone

Why do you think you're in the moment in the post-season?

It's something that you look for, you know. It's the thing that you dream about when you're a little kid, scoring playoff goals, doing everything you can for the team, and scoring goals in the playoffs is huge for the team.

Rough start?

I think we came out a little slow. I don't know if the week off kinda hurt us a bit? But they came out hard, we weathered the storm and we came back strong. Walters scored a huge goal. That was big.

Their forecheck

We worked on it all week, their forecheck. They like to pressure two guys hard on our defense, so we were moving pucks up the boards. Playoff hockey, you have to protect the blue line, you've got to get pucks out, and that's what we did.

Biggest difference tonight

We competed. All week we've been stressing the little things, it's playoff hockey, you've got to play with desperation. That's what it's all about: it's who wants it bad enough. Tonight we came out and it was a huge win for us.

On Slater

Words can't even describe what he means to our team. He works so hard every single day, in the gym, outside the arena, in the lockerroom, before practice. It's huge. He's that type of player, scores goals, grinds it out, and he got a huge one for us today.

Ian Slater

I went through a little bit of a slump, but it was nice to get the monkey off the back at the right time. That whole play, that secondary scoring, will definitely be there consistently throughout the rest of the playoffs from my line, and outward. It's imperative for us.

Power plays

It's what we expect of ourself, we expect to be consistent, consistently good on both areas of special teams, to be able to answer on our power play and shut them down on the penalty kill.

In the third

We played tight, we played hard. It's going to take that effort, from here on out we have to be able to close teams out. Especially in the third period. Being able to do that shows the guys are prepared and ready for the long haul.

For tomorrow

We need to come out. They showed that they're going to stick with it all three periods, they're going to be persistent, they're going to be hungry. You can't sit back for a minute, because if we sit back and we lose this next one, it comes down to one game and anything can happen. So we have to come out ready, and prepared, and determined - exceed their passion.
