KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team won its fourth match in its last five outings, and the Broncos defeated the Butler Bulldogs 6-1 at West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo. With the win, the Broncos improve to 6-3 on the season. They will return to action tomorrow when they face Michigan State in East Lansing.
The Broncos quickly clinched the match victory with five straight wins to start singles play, with Pablo Olivarez sealing the match win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Pulok Bhattacharya in the No. 3 singles match. Nadin Indre followed up with his team-leading 18th victory of the season, defeating Austin Woldmoe 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match. The Broncos began singles play with victories coming from the bottom of the singles line-up, when Aaron Wong won the No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-2 over Sam O'Neill and Ross VanderPloeg beat Billy Weldon 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles.
The Broncos swept the Bulldogs in doubles play, taking all three matches and improving their record to 6-0 when winning the doubles point. Wong and Zeyad Montasser opened the match with a win in the No. 2 doubles match, beating Tommy Marx and Zach Ervin 8-4. Indre and VanderPloeg clinched the doubles point for the Broncos with an 8-5 win over Woldmoe and Weldon. Olivarez and Simon Blomberg wrapped up the doubles session with an 8-6 win over Bhattacharya and O'Neill.
