WMU Quotes - 2/10

Head Coach Andy Murray

Overall thoughts

I parked this one about two minutes ago, now trying to figure out how we can get three points tomorrow night. I talked to the guys after the game, and said I'm not going to pat anybody on the back tonight, I want to reserve it for tomorrow night. We're going to have to play better tomorrow, because our opponent will be better as well.

Possession

All I know is it took an overtime goal to win. We seemed to have the puck quite a bit but they're a well-coached team, they're very competitive. They battled us. Twice we had leads in the game and they came back on us, and it wasn't because we weren't trying; we generated a number of offensive opportunities. But I give them credit, they just kept battling and went to overtime, and that's a 50/50 situation.

3rd period

I forgot. I'm thinking about tomorrow. I'm being very honest. I don't even know what happened in the third. I know it ended up going into overtime. Somebody told me Dane Walters scored. I'm just excited about what's going to happen tomorrow. The whole game they kept battling, we kept trying to put pressure on them, and they kept coming back at us. Back and forth, high tempo.

Importance of tomorrow

It'll be the biggest game we play tomorrow, since it's the only one. That's the approach we're taking. We've got 16 days left in regulation. And tomorrow we've got 15. We've got to make every single day, whether it's practice or games, a great day. We've got to find a way to make tomorrow a great day as well.

Dane Walters

Overtime goal, did everything slow down?

To tell you the truth, my line mates did most of the work there. Berschbach got it over to Balisy, and Balisy pulled up, had a nice play, sent it back over to Berschbach who knocked the puck, kind of lost it,and it was just laying there for me. I tried to pull it over and just put it in, and luckily, it got a good bounce.

Back and forth game

That's hockey. That's the way the game is played. You can't score one goal in the first, and expect to be able to sit on that the whole game. You've got to expect ups and downs and try to maintain that even keel throughout the whole game. I think we did a pretty good job of doing that tonight. we didn't really let ourselves get down, we fought to the end, and came out with the win.

Possession

We were making a plan all week in practice to possess the puck. The team who has the puck most usually wins. We wanted to maintain th puck in the offensive zone as much as we could, generate as many shots, as much offense, and we just have to do it again tomorrow.

Goal

We were just battling. I think Roehl took about six swings at it. I didn't even know it went in. I shot it, and I see Slater going crazy. I don't know how it went in! That kid was on the ground, Heeter was there - we still don't know. I'm just glad we got the win.

Each shift, each game, it's very important. It could be that play that costs you a championship. Every night from here on out's a battle, it's going to be a grind and we've got to show up every night and grind it out, otherwise we're not going to like it.

Dane's goal

He's been there for us all year. It's awesome that he's the guy that did it for us. My line stepped up tonight, but that line deserves a lot of credit. They put a lot of pucks in for us. Three unbelievable players, and it's really cool to watch them every night.
