SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Western Michigan's four-game winning streak was snapped on Sunday evening by Notre Dame in a 4-0 loss at Compton Family Ice Arena.
The Broncos were outshot 35-14 on the night with freshman
Lukas Hafner making 20 saves in a relief appearance in the second period.
The Fighting Irish took an early 1-0 lead at 2:46 in the first period on a power play goal by Steven Fogarty. Austin Wuthrich found Fogarty in the slot and he found the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
Just over a minute into the second period Notre Dame extended the lead to 2-0 on a goal by Anders Lee. Bryan Rust attempted a wraparound but the puck was deflected and bounced right to Lee's stick for his fourth of the season.
ND took a 3-0 lead just over three minutes later at 4:11 in the second period on a goal by Jeff Costello. After that Bronco head coach
Andy Murray pulled WMU goalie
Frank Slubowski and inserted Hafner for his collegiate debut.
Lee added an empty net goal with 1:04 remaining in the third period.
The Broncos continue CCHA action and have a home-and-home series with Bowling Green this coming weekend. WMU hosts the Falcons on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and then heads to BGSU on Saturday night.
