Broncos Shutout Golden Griffins, 3-0

KALAMAZOO -- Three different Broncos scored and Frank Slubowski made 21 saves as No. 12 Western Michigan shutout Canisius, 3-0, in front of 2,756 fans on Friday night at Lawson Ice Arena.

Freshman Josh Pitt, sophomore defenseman Jordan Oesterle and junior Mike Cichy each lit the lamp with Pitt and Cichy both turning in two-point games. Slubowski's 21 saves were a season high with the Broncos outshooting the Golden Griffins 41-21 on the night. WMU capitalized on one of their eight power plays on the night, while they held Canisius scoreless on three.

After outshooting the Golden Griffins 12-2 in the first period Pitt netted his first collegiate goal 9:15 into the second period. Garret Haar found Pitt streaking down center ice and the Brockville, Ontario native fired it over Canisius goalie Troy Capobianco's shoulder and into the net. Haar tallied his first assist of the season and third point in three games. Cichy also notched his third helper of the year on the game-winning goal.

At 14:13 Oesterle netted his first goal of the season with a rocket through traffic from just beyond the left circle. The puck sifted through traffic and bounced off the far post and in to put WMU up 2-0. Trevor Elias tallied his first assist of the game and Pitt also earned an assist for his first two-point game of his career.

Cichy added the nail in the coffin at 11:34 in the third period on the power play. He fired a shot from the bottom of the right circle and then punched in his rebound for his first goal as a Bronco. It had been 693 days since Cichy last scored a goal in college, with the previous goal coming for North Dakota on Nov. 26, 2010 against Notre Dame. Dane Walters picked up his second point of the season and Chase Balisy notched his first point of the year.

Capobianco made 38 saves for the Golden Griffins in the lost.
