BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Bowling Green scored two goals in the third period to upset Western Michigan, 2-1, on Saturday night at the BGSU Ice Arena.
The Broncos took an early 1-0 lead on Squires' second goal on the weekend. He started the breakout on the power play and found
Will Kessel at the BG blue line. Kessel brought it in and passed it through the crease to Squires and the senior banged it in for his fourth of the season. Kessel picked up his third assist of the season and
Mike Leone tallied his first point of the year.
WMU had to dig in during the final minutes of the second period. With two defesemen in the penalty box the Broncos killed off 1:45 of a five-on-three Bowling Green power play to keep the game in their favor after two periods of play.
The Falcons tied the game 1-1 at 6:10 in the third period on Camden Wojtala's sixth of the season. Wojtala attempted a wraparound with
Frank Slubowski making the initial save but the sophomore picked up the rebound and flipped it into the net.
Bowling Green scored the game-winning with 6:09 remaining when James McIntosh punched in a rebound on a shot by Chad Sumsion. Sumsion's shot bounced up and over Slubowski and McIntosh skated into the crease to put it in.
Slubowski made 20 saves on the night but BGSU's Andrew Hammond held the Broncos to just one goal by making 27 saves.
